August 22, 2006 (2nd post)

We had a brief sightseeing tour in Almaty. The city is bustling and quite active. We found a western-style grocery store and bought a few items to tide us over. We napped again this afternoon...will our body clocks ever adjust!? Today we got our plane tickets to Kustanai, and we leave tomorrow afternoon. We will be greeted by our coordinator Amir there, and we will stay there one night, then meet the regional orphanage director.

There are a few English-speaking people in the hotel, enough to understand basic questions and inquiries. We met a young Spanish woman in the business center (Internet center in the hotel) who speaks English well and told us quite a bit more about this area and the culture. We are starting to feel a little more comfortable with our surroundings. Just in time to leave tomorrow! Hello to all friends & family back home. Talk to you soon. D&L

Great to read your updates and see that you have had a good adventure so far! That sounds like NC weather - and we thought is was going to be more fall like.
I met Allison on Sat - we went to Chuckie Cheese :) What a zoo that is - but we all had a good time and John said after I left she couldn't quit talking about me ... so I guess she likes me :)
The good thing was that I could take a nap in my quiet house after Chuckie Cheese - but I did make a quick trip to Cat Banjo first ... and got some cute stuff :)
Have fun and be safe! Love - Cathy

I hope you realize how excited everyone is for both of you here at MRI. We look forward to all of your updates and excitedly read and discuss any news we learn. This has now been lovingly nicknamed, “the blog.” If someone sees an update has been made they ask everyone, “Have you checked the blog?” and there is no question as to which blog. I am so glad you have kept us up to date with your adventure and I can’t wait to see the next update!
